Driver in body-shaming case faces license suspension

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has recommended the suspension of the license of a jeepney driver involved in a body-shaming incident.

The LTFRB asked the Land Transportation Office to suspend the driver’s license of Arneto Palisan.

An LTFRB order cited Palisan for violating Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code as well as RA 11313, otherwise known as the Safe Spaces Act.

The board said Palisan and his wife, who served as a jeepney conductor, were found guilty in the body-shaming case.

They supposedly refused to allow a 29-year-old female passenger to board the jeepney along NAIA Avenue in Parañaque because of her body weight.

The passenger said she was also asked to pay twice the normal fare and was ordered to get out of the jeepney for being overweight.

The LTFRB said the complainant had suffered degradation and humiliation.
