Demolition at CDO Army camp to displace 425 families

Gerry Lee Gorit - The Philippine Star

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Up to 425 families will be affected in a series of demolitions at an Army camp in this city.

Soldiers have been installed in strategic areas to maintain order and stop affected families from resisting.

The demolition started yesterday and no untoward incident has so far been reported.

Lt. Col. Francisco Garello, chief of the public affairs office of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, said the military would assist families affected by the demolition.

Garello said the families have been informed about the demolition.

“Our superiors have reached out to the city housing and urban development department and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development to discuss possible relocation of qualified settlers,” Garello said. He said some families volunteered to demolish their houses.
