MANILA, Philippines — Caritas Philippines is appealing for donations such as food and face masks for families displaced by the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros.

Caritas Philippines executive director Fr. Carmelo Caluag said several families are still in evacuation centers due to ashfall, sulfur dioxide emissions as well as lahar flow from Kanlaon.

“They need face masks, food and most especially, (potable) water. We hope you would continue supportingt (our program) to help people affected by Kanlaon,” Caluag said.

Reports said a total of 15,511 families from 23 barangays in Negros sought shelter in evacuation centers when Kanlaon erupted on June 3.

Four dioceses of the Catholic Church located in Bacolod, Dumaguete, Kabankalan and San Carlos were also affected by the volcano‘s activity.
