NCRPO to deploy 22,000 cops for SONA
MANILA, Philippines — More than 22,000 police officers will be deployed to secure the third State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Marcos in July, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
“We will be utilizing all our resources just to ensure the peace order and safety of everyone during that day,” NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a press conference yesterday.
“We are preparing and collaborating with the different stakeholders, especially with the local government units, to bolster peace and tranquility,” he added.
The NCRPO chief said they recorded no threat in the region two months ahead of Marcos’ second SONA.
Nartatez said the NCRPO would continuously monitor any threat that may arise that might disrupt the conduct of the national event.
“We will be sending our intelligence operatives to deny (such threats) so that the SONA will be free from threat groups,” he said.
Areas surrounding the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City will also be monitored and cleared in the days leading to the event, he added.
