MANILA, Philippines — A man allegedly caught brandishing a firearm shot dead a police official who tried to disarm him in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte yesterday.
Capt. Roland Moralde, an administrative officer of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police’s Regional Mobile Force Battalion, suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Initial investigation showed that Moralde was at a public market in Barangay Poblacion 2 when he saw Mohiden Untal, with a gun tucked in his waist.
Maj. Christopher Cabugwang, Parang police chief, said Moralde, although wounded, managed to return fire.
Untal tried to escape, but he was shot by responding policemen and village watchmen.
Moralde and Untal were brought to the Iranun District Hospital, where they were both declared dead on arrival.
