MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte took to social media to warn taxi drivers against charging airport passengers with fixed rates.
Duterte told the drivers to stop the practice or face his rattan stick.
He issued the warning after complaints came to his attention about taxi drivers demanding exorbitant fixed rates instead of using taxi meters.
“I’ll warn you here. It’s better to warn you here on social media Facebook because many can read this and the Maritesses can spread the news out,” Duterte said in the post.
He said he had previously warned taxi drivers to refrain from taking advantage of airport passengers.
“Now, since you still won’t stop from demanding a fixed rate, especially from passengers coming from the airport, if I catch you in the act, you’ll meet my rattan stick,” Duterte said. “Try me.”
