Ex-LGU exec gets 1 year in prison for killing dog
MANILA, Philippines — A man has been sentenced to one year in prison after he was found guilty of animal cruelty for killing a dog.
Randy Robles, former tourism officer of the Baras municipal government, was also ordered to pay a fine of P5,000, according to a decision of the Teresa-Baras Municipal Trial Court Branch 2 issued on Jan. 15.
Robles was found guilty of violating Republic Act 8485, or the Animal Welfare Act, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) said on Friday.
The PAWS led by its executive director Anna Cabrera pursued the charges.
Robles reportedly shot the dog in Barangay Rizal on July 28, 2020 because he was annoyed by its noise.
