MANILA, Philippines — Dengue cases in the country have been decreasing, the Department of Health (DOH) reported yesterday.

At least 7,434 dengue cases were recorded from Jan. 14 to 27, an 11 percent decrease compared to the 8,368 cases logged two weeks earlier, latest DOH data showed.

From Jan. 28 to Feb. 10, the DOH recorded 5,267 cases.

In Northern Mindanao and Caraga, dengue cases increased to 1,384 from Jan. 14 to 27 compared to 715 two weeks earlier.

The DOH said 67 dengue-related deaths were recorded from Jan. 1 to Feb. 10, a case fatality rate of 0.32 percent.

Sixty-six deaths were recorded during the same period last year.

The DOH said it continues to monitor and assess the situation to implement necessary measures and interventions.

The department reiterated its advice to the public to strengthen the implementation of the 5S strategy: search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, use self-protection measures, seek early consultation, say yes to fogging where needed, and start and sustain hydration.
