MANILA, Philippines —  Anti-narcotics agents intercepted a shipment that contained 63.36 kilos of marijuana valued at P76.03 million at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) in Tondo, Manila yesterday.

Operating teams from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized the illegal drugs at the MICP’s container freight station 3 at around 1 p.m.

The marijuana leaves were found in 126 transparent plastic bags placed in five balikbayan boxes, according to the PDEA.

Officials of Barangay 651 as well as representatives from the justice department and a media outfit were present during the inventory.

The BOC said the boxes, declared to contain personal effects from Thailand, were consigned to Marcelo Laylo Cargo Forwarders. The boxes were reportedly sent by Gerard Cruz and the recipient is listed as Erika Cruz, a resident of Dasmariñas, Cavite.
