MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Taguig has started implementing the guidelines set by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on the use of electronic tricycles or e-trikes as a form of public transport along national roads.

Citing Administrative Order 2021-039, Taguig said e-trikes are prohibited along national roads such as C6, C5 and Kalayaan Avenue.

The local government noted that e-trikes are limited for personal use and cannot be used as public transportation.

Under the LTO order, Taguig said e-trikes cannot be modified, such as installing a sidecar.

E-trike owners are likewise ordered to use the right side of the road to avoid obstructing other vehicles and keep the flow of traffic smooth.

While e-trikes are permitted to use the bicycle lanes, electric tricycles are required to maintain a slow pace and give priority to cyclists.

Drivers and passengers of e-trikes are also required to wear helmets.

Failure to comply with the regulation is subject to penalties, the city government said.
