Tour guide dies after accidentally falling off cliff in Bataan
MANILA, Philippines — A local tourist guide in his late 30s fell off a cliff in Mariveles, Bataan on Thursday night, resulting in injuries and later on death.
The man's remains — which was recovered at a steep cliff around Tarak Ridge — could be seen being choppered off in a video shared by RMN Region 3 on Saturday morning.
According to Marty Tañagras of the Alasasin village Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), the tour guide was supposed to catch a fish before the gruesome incident.
"There's a part that needs to be crossed before they [could start fishing]. They went to Palanas," Tañagras said in Filipino in a report by ANC.
"Now, his companions say that a root was cut off. And when it severed, he fell."
The casualty is said to be a native of Tarak Ridge. Officials earlier held off from handling his body due to reported fractures, making lifting the victims a challenge to responders.
Authorities have suspended trekking activities at said ride following the horrific incident.
