MANILA, Philippines — The temperature in Baguio City went down to 13.4 degrees Celsius yesterday as the northeast monsoon or amihan strengthened, affecting most areas in Luzon including Metro Manila, according to state meteorologists.

Latest monitoring by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) showed the 13.4-degrees-Celsius temperature was recorded at 6 a.m.

A lower temperature was also felt in  Metro Manila after PAGASA logged  21.2 degrees Celsius at the Science Garden in Quezon City.

Aside from Baguio City and Metro Manila, other areas with lower temperature were Basco, Batanes with 17.2 degrees Celsius followed by Tanay, Rizal, 18.3; Sinait, Ilocos Norte, 19.4; Tuguegarao, Cagayan, 19.5; Abucay, Bataan, 20.2; Laoag, Ilocos Norte, 20.3; Casiguran, Aurora, 20.8, and Calayan, Cagayan, 21.1 degrees Celsius.

“The northeast monsoon has slightly strengthened as it affects a major portion of Luzon,” Grace Castañeda, PAGASA weather specialist, said.

The northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies and rain, especially in the eastern section of Luzon.

“We did not monitor any low-pressure area that could affect the country,” Castañeda said.

She said the easterlies could bring rain in Davao regions, Caraga and Eastern Visayas.

“In the next three days, the amihan will continue to prevail in Luzon, with Metro Manila and Baguio having fair weather,” she said.
