MANILA, Philippines — Four Chinese and a South African have been arrested in separate operations conducted by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Legazpi, Albay.

The four Chinese men reportedly violated the conditions stated in their visas, according to Fortunato Manahan Jr., chief of the BI intelligence division.

The BI said three of the Chinese – Li Xiaodong, Shi Jiazhu and Shi Yushuang – were found working in different companies in Metro Manila.

Manahan said the foreigners’ visas do not allow them to seek employment in the country.

The fourth Chinese, identified as Ding Xiaoqui, who has a working visa, was reportedly employed in a construction supply firm in Albay.

Manahan said records showed that Ding’s working visa was sponsored by a company in Cubao, Quezon City.

Aside from the Chinese, South African Benjamin Michael Theron was arrested in Legazpi City on Jan. 24 for overstaying.

Theron’s former partner filed a complaint before the police, saying he was causing disturbance in the community.

The BI found out that Theron has been in the country since 2018 and his visa has expired.

The foreigners were brought to Manila and detained at the BI’s facility in Bicutan, Taguig.
