1,090 nabbed in Quezon City for illegal gambling

MANILA, Philippines — Over 1,000 people have been rounded up by police in Quezon City in an intensified drive against illegal gambling.

Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said up to 1,090 people were apprehended from Oct. 1, 2023 to Jan. 15.

At least P164,080 in gambling money and paraphernalia were seized by police in 381 operations during the period.

Maranan said the Payatas Bagong Silangan police station posted the highest number of arrests with 276 followed by the Novaliches police station with 157 and Batasan police station with 120.

Charges of illegal gambling under Presidential Decree 1602 have been filed against the suspects before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office.

“The QCPD’s anti-crime operations exemplify our unwavering dedication in achieving strides to provide QCitizens a peaceful and well-organized community,” Maranan said in a statement.
