Bataan farmers, LGUs receive farm equipment

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — Farm machinery and post-harvest equipment worth up to P35 million were distributed to 23 farmer cooperatives and local government units in Bataan on Friday, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The distribution was coursed through the DA’s Philippine Center for Postharvest and Mechanization as part of the DA’s transition to mechanization.

The turnover was held at the Sibul Nature Spring Resort in Abucay town and led by PhilMech chief Dionisio Alvindia.

The program is one of the components of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund under the Rice Tariffication Law.

Among the items distributed were seven four-wheeled tractors, 12 hand tractors, two transplanters, eight rice harvesters and a single-pass ricemill. Bataan acquired 289 agricultural machinery and post-harvest facilities valued at over P241 million, the DA said.
