MANILA, Philippines — Makati Mayor Abby Binay said yesterday she would give herself until March to decide whether she will run for mayor of Taguig in the 2025 midterm elections.

“There’s still no sign. There’s nothing yet. I am giving myself until March. I have to decide by then,” she said.

Binay said she has other options to choose from once her term ends.

“I can go national. I can run for Congress. I can run for the Senate. I can run for mayor. I can decide not to run. I can become a full-time wife. I can study,” she said.

“I’m lucky because I have those options. That’s why it’s difficult to decide on what path I should pursue,” Binay added.

With her term as Makati mayor ending in 2025, Binay said she only trusts her husband, Rep. Luis Campos Jr., to succeed her.

Makati procures 5 e-cars

Meanwhile, the city government of Makati has acquired five new electric cars to boost response during emergencies.

Binay led the turnover of five Hyundai IONIQ 5 units to the city’s public safety department (PSD) yesterday.

She said the procurement of electric cars is a testament to Makati’s commitment to pioneering sustainable urban living.

“These cutting-edge vehicles symbolize a significant strive toward a more innovative and sustainable future for Makati,” she said.

“This move not only bolsters our emergency services, but also sets an example for other cities to follow in the pursuit of sustainable urban living,” she added.

According to Binay, the electric cars will be deployed across the city to ensure rapid and effective response to emergencies.

Three charging stations were set up at the city hall, Palanan barangay hall and Guadalupe barangay hall.

Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo, PSD head Michael Camiña and other local officials attended the event.

Also in attendance were South Korean Ambassador Lee Sang-Hwa and Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. president Dong Wook Lee.
