COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Three pedestrians, including a two-year-old girl, died when a wayward car hit a curb in Barangay Calapagan in Lupon, Davao Oriental on Monday.

A police report released yesterday identified the fatalities as Joselito Semiros, 58; Camille Toledo, 23; and Adessa Toledo, 2.

The three were walking by the roadside when they were hit by a Toyota Vios. The driver of the car, Vicente Ambayec, 48, was taken into police custody.

Ambayec said he lost control of the wheel when he tried to avoid a dog and two motorcycles in the opposite lane.

In Rizal, 17 people, four of them minors, were injured when a passenger jeepney rammed an acacia tree in Barangay San Roque in Angono, police chief Lt. Col. Lauro Moratillo said in a report.

The jeepney driver, Melvic Rivera, was reportedly chasing another jeepney that rear-ended his vehicle when the accident occurred.
