COTABATO CITY — Three pedestrians, one of them a two-year-old child, died from serious injuries after a wayward car hit them along a highway in Barangay Calapagan in Lupon, Davao Oriental on Monday.

Reports obtained from the Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office and the Police Regional Office-11 by broadcast and print journalists on Wednesday identified the three fatalities as Joselito Semiros, 58, Camille Toledo, 23, and the two-year-old Adessa Toledo. They are now in a mortuary.

The police reports identified the driver of the car that rammed the pedestrians as Vicente Mocoy Ambayec, 48. He is now detained at the Lupon Municipal Police Station.

Ambayec told investigators that he lost control of his car, bearing plate No. VID 311, when he avoided a stray dog and two motorcycles approaching from the opposite direction of the route. This caused the vehicle to swerve and hit the victims, then walking at one side of the highway.

Semiros and the two Toledos were declared dead on arrival at the Davao Oriental Medical Center in Mati City, Davao Oriental where emergency responders brought them for treatment.
