MANILA, Philippines — More than 800 inmates of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City received free legal and medical services from the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Saturday.

At least 288 inmates received free legal consultation while 515 received dental and eye care as well as other medical services.

“This initiative provided support and relief to the PDLs, ensuring that their legal rights were upheld, their medical needs were addressed and efforts were made to alleviate the overcrowding situation within the prison,” the BuCor said, referring to persons deprived of liberty.

“The PAO’s initiative underscores their commitment to promoting justice and improving the welfare of those who are incarcerated,” it added.

The NBP activity was spearheaded by PAO in partnership with the Manila Central University Hospital, the De Ocampo Memorial College of Dentistry and Executive Optical.
