MANILA, Philippines — Two people were killed in a shooting in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.
The shooting along Kaliraya street in Barangay Tatalon occurred at around 2:40 a.m., according to investigators of the Quezon City Police District.
One of the victims, Lhennard Fernandez, 24, was binge drinking with four other people in his house when an unidentified man barged inside.
Without provocation, the assailant shot Fernandez in the head and chest with a handgun of unknown caliber.
The victim’s companions were not hurt but Fernandez’s neighbor, Henry Gopo, 30, who was asleep in an adjacent house, was hit in the abdomen by a stray bullet.
Both men were rushed by their neighbors to the Delos Santos Medical Center, where Fernandez was declared dead on arrival. Physicians tried to save Gopo, but he succumbed to his injury at around 6 a.m.
Witnesses said the assailant was clad in a black t-shirt, denim shorts and a black helmet. An investigation is underway to unmask his identity.
Police investigators are searching for clues on the motive for the shooting.
