Tabuk bags good governance seal

Artemio Dumlao - The Philippine Star

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Tabuk City, capital of Kalinga, has been awarded the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The conferment of the award came as Tabuk Mayor Darwin Estrañero is under suspension over a case of simple misconduct.

This is the second time that the city received the award, which is given to local government units that show exemplary performance in public service.

Tabuk first received the award in 2021.

Officials said this year’s SGLG award highlighted the city’s commitment to provide efficient service and strengthen transparency, accountability and participation.

“The Estrañero administration has implemented programs and initiatives that transformed Tabuk into a more sustainable and progressive city. Estrañero’s commitment to public service and leadership has been crucial in guiding the local government toward this second SGLG award,” the DILG said.

The city government said the SGLG award is the result of the dedication shown by both city officials and employees as well as the Sangguniang Panglunsod in serving their constituents.

In October, the Office of the Ombudsman suspended Estrañero for three months over alleged irregularities in the procurement of medical equipment during the COVID pandemic.
