MANILA, Philippines — Newly elected officials of the 10 enlisted men’s barrios or “embo” barangays, which are now under the jurisdiction of Taguig, have opted to be sworn in by Makati Mayor Abby Binay, the Makati City government said yesterday.

A total of 140 newly elected barangay chairpersons and council members as well as their counterparts in the Sangguniang Kabataan in Cembo, Comembo, East Rembo, Pembo, Pitogo, Post Proper Northside, Post Proper Southside, South Cembo, West Rembo and Rizal took part in a mass oath-taking on Friday.

“We are grateful to these barangay officials who have bravely shown their loyalty and solidarity with the city government of Makati. Their bold move serves to underscore their unwavering trust and confidence in our brand of leadership that has always put a premium on the well-being and quality of life of our Proud Makatizens,” Binay said.

Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo, Binay’s husband Makati District 2 Rep. Luis Campos and District 2 Rep. Romulo Peña Jr. were present at the ceremony.

In August, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) recognized the change of jurisdiction of embo barangays from Makati to Taguig.

Comelec-Taguig facilitated the filing of candidacy and the barangay elections in these areas last October.

Taguig, led by Mayor Lani Cayetano, also hosted an oath-taking ceremony for newly elected village officials.

Last October, Binay filed an urgent motion for clarification with a prayer for the issuance of a status quo ante order in connection with the question of jurisdiction over 10 barangays.

This motion seeks to maintain a status quo order while waiting for the writ of execution to ensure an orderly transition of services.
