MANILA, Philippines —  A household helper is facing criminal complaints after he allegedly stole P27.1 million worth of jewelry and cash from his former employer in Quezon City.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced on Friday that a theft complaint was filed before the city prosecutor’s office against Aldrin delos Santos, who worked as a houseboy for the victim for six years.

Delos Santos’ former employer discovered the suspect stole from her one month after the suspect resigned last September, allegedly to take care of his ailing mother.

It was only on Oct. 5 that she discovered Delos Santos’ crime after she noticed that P7 million worth of her jewelry were missing.

The suspect was arrested on Oct. 26 after he returned to the victim’s house and attempted to steal more jewelry.

Delos Santos entered through the back door and went to the victim’s room.

He tried to escape after he left the victim’s room but was collared by NBI agents.

Recovered from the suspect were P27 million worth of jewelry and P100,000 in cash placed in a paper bag and a body bag.

The suspect underwent inquest proceedings last Oct. 27, the NBI said.
