Cop wanted for malversation falls
MANILA, Philippines — A policeman who is wanted for malversation was arrested in Manila on Monday, the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) announced yesterday.
M/Sgt. Joel Jasareno, who went AWOL or absent without leave, was apprehended in Barangay 138 in Tondo, IMEG director Brig. Gen. Warren de Leon said.
Jasareno’s capture was based on a warrant of arrest issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 81 Judge Madonna Echiverri for malversation of public property under Article 217 of the Revised Penal Code.
De Leon said Jasareno’s arrest stemmed from a complaint of the Quezon City Police District after the policeman failed to surrender long firearms issued to him.
The court set bail for Jasareno’s temporary liberty at P60,000.
