Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A missing cell phone led to the killing of a house painter in Quezon City on Friday.

Ernesto Alberto, 53, was killed by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, in Barangay Bagong Silangan at around 1:20 p.m.

Police investigators said that before the shooting, Alberto and one of the assailants were arguing about a missing cell phone.

Witnesses said the assailant took out a handgun from the motorcycle’s compartment while his companion held Alberto.

Alberto was shot after he resisted. The assailants then fled toward an unknown direction on their motorcycle.

Bystanders brought Alberto to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have launched a manhunt for the still unidentified assailants.
