MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Jenny exited the Philippine Area of responsibility (PAR) yesterday, but will continue to bring heavy rainfall over parts of extreme Northern Luzon today, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA weather forecasters said Jenny may enhance the southwest monsoon, which will affect parts of the country until weekend.

Jenny was monitored 275 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes as of 4 p.m. yesterday.

It was carrying maximum sustained winds of 140 kms per hour and gustiness of up to 170 kph.

Rainfall of 100 to 200 millimeters is forecast over Batanes until today, with higher rainfall expected in mountainous areas.

Tropical cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 remained hoisted over the northern portion of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, northern portion of Apayao, northwestern portion of Cagayan and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte.

PAGASA said Jenny would continue to move west slowly over the Taiwan Strait and the coastal waters of southeastern China.

The typhoon will continue to weaken due to additional cool dry air from the north.

It may become a tropical depression by Sunday.

The trough of the typhoon may bring scattered rains over the rest of Cagayan Valley, the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region and the rest of Ilocos.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mimaropa.

The rest of the country may see isolated rains due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.
