MANILA, Philippines — Relatives and friends of the late former president Fidel Ramos, led by his widow Amelita Ramos, yesterday offered flowers at his gravesite at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig.

To mark Ramos’ first death anniversary, a mass was held in remembrance of his career as a public servant.

Some of his former colleagues in government and comrades in the Special Action Force attended the ceremony despite the rain.

Former senator Richard Gordon and former interior and local government secretary Rafael Alunan were also present during the event.

Ramos, former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief, passed away last year at the age of 94.

One of the leaders of the EDSA people power revolt in 1986, he became famous for his victory jump after he learned that the family of former president Ferdinand Marcos had left Malacañang and fled to Hawaii.

Ramos, the 12th president of the Philippines who served from 1992 to 1998, became popular for his “Kaya natin ito” battle cry coupled with his thumbs up sign.
