Caloocan opens locally initiated Kadiwa center

MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Caloocan on Tuesday unveiled its first local government-initiated Kadiwa store, the first such center in Metro Manila.

Mayor Dale Gonzalo Malapitan led the inauguration of the Kadiwa Bagsakan Center (KBC) in Barangay 176, Bagong Silang.

Malapitan said the KBC is the first center established by any local government in the National Capital Region.

He said the city government pushed for the KBC’s creation to alleviate nutrition problems in low-income areas by providing residents with a permanent local market with affordable locally sourced goods.

The center has 200 stalls for dry goods, wet market and general merchandise.

Malapitan assured vendors of a free lease for six months so they can recoup their investments.
