MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and Borongan City government signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) yesterday to develop and maintain Borongan Airport in Eastern Samar.
CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said CAAP Director General Manuel Antonio Tamayo and Borongan Mayor Jose Ivan Agda signed the MOA.
”With the aim of accommodating a growing number of passengers and fostering economic growth in the area, the Borongan City government proposed a comprehensive plan to undertake and finance various development and maintenance projects at Borongan Airport,” CAAP said in a statement.
The projects include the construction of a new passenger terminal building.
Tamayo said the MOA is a ”significant milestone” in the partnership between CAAP and the Borongan local government unit.
Agda, for his part, said the MOA gives hope to the people of Borongan as it is seen to pave the way for future economic development not only in the city but in the entire Samar region. — Ralph Edwin Villanueva
