Cop relieved for using car tagged as evidence

Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A policeman is under investigation after he was caught using a car, which was presented as evidence in a criminal case, the police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) reported yesterday.

S/Sgt. Clifton de Leon was placed on floating status and turned over to the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management at Camp Crame in Quezon City following his arrest on Tuesday.

IMEG officer-in-charge Col. Leon Victor Rosete said De Leon is facing an administrative complaint before the Internal Affairs Service.

IMEG operatives and police officers from the Headquarters Support Service pulled over De Leon while driving a Honda City sedan at the Philippine National Police headquarters.

The operation was in response to a complaint that De Leon was driving a vehicle, which is part of the recovered evidence in a court case.

Police said they confiscated a fake vehicle pass from De Leon.

The vehicle is in the custody of the IMEG for documentation and proper disposition.
