Cop kills self accidentally

Camp Vicente Lim, Laguna , Philippines — A police officer died when his firearm went off apparently by accident in Lipa, Batangas before dawn yesterday.

The body of S/Sgt. Ronald Silva, 46, of the Mobile Patrol Unit of the Lipa police station, was found by his daughter Daniela at their home in Barangay Bulacnin at around 5 a.m.

Silva died from a gunshot to the head, according to Lt. Col. Ariel Azurin, Lipa police chief.

Probers expressed belief the officer was cleaning his firearm when it accidentally went off.

Relatives found the gun and cleaning materials at the scene of the incident.

Investigation is ongoing.
