Criminal raps filed vs Cavite student’s killer

Ed Amoroso - The Philippine Star

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Police have formally filed criminal charges against the alleged killer of a 24-year-old graduating student of De La Salle University in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

The suspect, identified as Angelito Erlano, 39, underwent inquest proceedings at the Dasmariñas Custodial Facility on Saturday night.

The inquest was administered by Assistant City Prosecutor Antoinette Reyes of the Dasmariñas Prosecutor’s Office.

Col. Christopher Olazo, Cavite police director, said the charges included robbery with homicide and direct assault upon an agent of a person in authority.

Erlano was arrested at the house of his friend in Barangay Victoria Reyes, Dasmariñas on Friday morning. He reportedly resisted and tried to attack a police officer.

On Wednesday night, police raided Erlano’s house in Barangay San Nicolas 2 and recovered a backpack owned by the victim, Queen Leanne Daguinsin, 24, who was killed in her room at a dormitory in Barangay San Nicolas 2.

The victim’s body bore multiple stab wounds.

The killing of Daquinsin is now considered solved, according to Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) police director.

“On the part of the police, investigation is finished or done. We have arrested and jailed the suspect. I believe we have an airtight case,” Nartatez said.

He said police would also identify the person who hid Erlano and the pieces of evidence.

Records showed Erlano was arrested for robbery last year.

Earlier, Dasmariñas Mayor Jennifer Barzaga, Cavite fourth district Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr., Sen. Bong Revilla and Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla offered a cash reward amounting to P1.1 for any information that could lead to the arrest of the killer.
