CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — The suspect in the robbery and killing of a graduating student of Dela Salle University in Dasmariñas, Cavite early this week was arrested yesterday.
Angelito Erlano, 39, alias Kulet, was apprehended at the house of his friend in Barangay Victoria Reyes at around 10:45 a.m., Col. Christopher Olazo, Cavite police director, said.
“We received information from an unknown tipster that the suspect was spotted in the barangay. We immediately dispatched a team to conduct an operation, which resulted in his arrest,” Olazo said.
Olazo’s men had tracked down Erlano since he was identified as the person involved in Daguinsin’s killing on Tuesday.
Erlano reportedly resisted and tried to attack a police officer, but was later subdued.
Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said the suspect is facing charges for robbery with homicide.
Queen Leanne Daguinsin, 24, was found dead in her room at a dormitory in Barangay San Nicolas 2. Her body bore 14 stab wounds while her personal belongings were missing.
Daguinsin’s backpack was recovered during a raid on the house of Erlano on Wednesday night.
Police said Erlano was arrested, also for robbery, last year.
A bounty totaling P1.1 million was put up by the city government of Dasmariñas, Mayor Jennifer Barzaga, Cavite fourth district Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr., Sen. Bong Revilla and Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla for information that could lead to the arrest of the killer.
