Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A 27-year-old man was apprehended on Tuesday after he allegedly stole a ventilator or life support machine worth P800,000 from a hospital in Barangay New Era, Quezon City, which he sold online for P55,000.

Paulo Miguel Sumbad, who works as a respiratory therapist for the hospital’s third party equipment provider, was taken into police custody.

Probers said a company representative discovered that the ventilator was missing during an inventory.

Security personnel of the hospital said Sumbad was recorded on closed-circuit television footage stealing the ventilator.

Police said the suspect admitted that he sold the equipment online for P55,000 to an anonymous buyer.

Sumbad was turned over to police by security guards for investigation.
