816 cops secure Cavite special polls
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Over 800 police officers will secure today’s special elections in the seventh district of Cavite for a vacant seat in the House of Repesentatives.
Col. Christopher Olazo, Cavite police director, said a total of 816 police officers along with military personnel, coast guards and augmentation teams from the regional headquarters along with 600 force multipliers were dispatched to various polling centers in Amadeo, Indang, Tanza and Trece Martirez, which comprise the seventh district.
Olazo said police checkpoints have been set up since last month to ensure peace and order during the entire election period.
The elections will determine the replacement of former congressman Jesus Crispin Remulla, who was appointed justice secretary.
Remulla’s son Crispin Diego Remulla of the National Party is among four candidates vying for the House vacancy.
Component city
Meanwhile, President Marcos signed on Thursday Republic Act (RA) 119381 converting the municipality of Carmona into a component city of Cavite.
Passed by the 19th Congress on July 25, 2022, RA 119381 requires the government of Carmona to hold a plebiscite within 60 days from the approval of the law.
The law provides that the present elective officials of Carmona should continue to exercise their powers and functions until an election is held and the duly elected officials have assumed offices.
“Appointive officials and employees of the municipality of Carmona should continue exercising their functions and duties and be automatically absorbed by the new city government,” the law said. – Robertzon Ramirez, Helen Flores
