Two dead in Noveleta fire 

MANILA, Philippines — A mother and her eight-year-old daughter perished in a fire that razed their house in Noveleta, Cavite yesterday.

The remains of Marlen Tamayo, 39, and her daughter were found at their house in Barangay Salcedo II, police said. The fire broke out at around 12:42 a.m. while the victims were asleep.

Probers said the fire originated in the kitchen and was caused by unattended firewood. Tamayo’s husband and their son managed to escape, but she and her daughter got trapped.
