MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) raided last week a cockpit arena in Quezon City and arrested 10 employees for allegedly operating online sabong.
Agents of the NBI National Capital Region swooped down on the Sta. Monica Cockpit in Novaliches based on a search warrant issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Judge Rosanna Fe Romero-Maglaya.
Ten employees were nabbed after they were caught in the act of recording the cockfight, in violation of President Marcos’ Executive Order No. 9 suspending the operations of e-sabong, according to NBI special investigator Ferdie Manuel.
Wireless internet servers, computers and video recorders were confiscated during the raid.
The cockpit employees were charged with illegal gambling in relation to cybercrime and the ban on e-sabong before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office.
The NBI said it would ask city hall to shut down the operations of the cockpit arena.
