Manila sends aid to Arlegui fire victims
MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Manila has extended aid to the victims of a fire that razed a residential compound along Arlegui street in Quiapo on Thursday.
Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan declared that each affected household would receive P10,000 as well as mattresses and relief packs.
She visited the covered court of Barangay 387, where families displaced by the fire were staying.
Lacuna-Pangan assured the fire victims that the city government would help them, provided they help themselves.
The blaze, which reached third alarm, engulfed the whole compound, including the barangay hall.
The Bureau of Fire Protection reported that six people – twins aged 12, a seven-year old and their parents as well as a senior citizen – died in the fire.
At least 500 families were left homeless.
Damage to property was estimated at P5 million.
