MANILA, Philippines — Crime incidents in the country from August to November this year dropped by 7.58 percent, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported yesterday.

Col. Redrido Maranan, chief of the PNP Public Information Office, said 12,031 focus crimes were recorded across the country from Aug. 3 to Nov. 30.

The figure is lower compared to the 13,018 crimes posted during the same period in 2021.

Maranan said Luzon registered the biggest drop with 8.67 percent from 7,568 to 6,912 crimes followed by Mindanao from 2,696 to 2,519 for a decrease of 6.57 percent and the Visayas from 2,754 to 2,600 or a drop of 5.59 percent.

The focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, vehicle theft, motorcycle theft and rape.

The PNP has deployed at least 192,000 police personnel nationwide to prevent criminals from carrying out their activities during the Christmas season.

Apart from deploying police officers in places of convergence such as churches and malls, the PNP also set up police and motorist assistance desks so that people can immediately seek help during emergencies.

As of yesterday, Maranan said they have not monitored any security threats.

With parties being held all over, Maranan also reminded motorists not to drive when they are drunk to avoid accidents.
