Negros Occidental cholera cases still rising
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Cholera cases in Negros Occidental have continued to increase, with 72 cases and three deaths recorded by the provincial health office as of Dec. 16.
Talisay City recorded the highest number of cases at 23 followed by Silay City, with 21 cases and one death; EB Magalona, 14 cases and one death; Cadiz City, four cases; Victorias City, two cases; Pulupandan and Manapla, two cases each, and Murcia, one death.
This city logged 30 cases, as of Dec. 10.
Cholera cases in Negros Occidental have been increasing since October.
Meanwhile, acute gastroenteritis cases in this city rose to 486 with 17 related deaths.
Acute gastroenteritis is an intestinal infection resulting in stomach pain or cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and fever, among others. It is usually caused by poor sanitation and ingestion of contaminated water.
The city health office had earlier reported that some of the acute gastroenteritis patients in Bacolod were also confirmed cholera cases.
