Housing project to benefit 4,000 informal settlers in Batangas

Elizabeth Marcelo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — At least 4,000 informal settler families (ISFs) are expected to benefit from a housing project in Tanauan, Batangas under the government’s Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program, according to the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.

DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar and Tanauan Mayor Nelson Collantes signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding for the construction of the project.

The signing was followed by a groundbreaking ceremony at the proposed project site in Barangay Sambat.

“Composed of 16 medium-rise buildings, the project will benefit at least 4,000 ISFs,” Acuzar said, adding that amenities such as school, playground, health center and multi-purpose hall are also part of the plan.

He said the project site is located near the New Tanauan City Hall, city proper, trading post and STAR Tollway to provide easy access to job and livelihood opportunities.

The project is the first in Batangas province under the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino: Zero ISF 2028 program, which aims to construct one million housing units per year.

Collantes said the city government needs the help of the national government through the Pambansang Pabahay program in fulfilling the dream of his constituents to own a house.

Acuzar said the help of the LGUs is a crucial element for the success of the program.

“Because of the hard work of your mayor, who was so eager for the housing construction to commence, you can be assured that the DHSUD will prioritize this project,” Acuzar told the residents.
