MANILA, Philippines — Makati has been recognized as one of the best cities in the country for pursuing sustainable tourism during the first Philippine Tourism Excellence Awards of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) and Megaworld Foundation Inc.
Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo and city international relations department head Ichi Yabut received the award on Friday on behalf of Mayor Abigail Binay.
The city government won an award under the good local governance category for its valuable contribution to sustainable urban tourism development.
The Philippine Tourism Excellence Awards honors the transformative and exemplary work of AIM alumni and partners for the country’s tourism industry, the city government said in a statement.
Binay recently represented the city at the 2022 Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
She was earlier recognized by luxury lifestyle magazine Tatler as one of Asia’s most influential leaders this year.
Tatler said Binay has brought her own brand of public service to upgrade Makati as a smart and sustainable city.
