6 fishermen nabbed for dynamite fishing

MANILA, Philippines — Six fishermen have been arrested for allegedly engaging in dynamite fishing in Ternate, Cavite, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said yesterday.

Personnel of the PCG and the Philippine National Police-Maritime Group identified the suspects as boat captain Acer Conjelado, 40, and his crewmembers – Nikko Antiojo, 23; Albert Conjeldo, 45; Arnel Montecalvo, 49; Robert Orqueza, 35, and Jaymar Orqueza, 25.

Authorities said they were conducting maritime patrol off Carabao Island on Nov. 10 when they spotted a fishing boat in the area.

During inspection, authorities found six dynamite bottles and an air compressor in the boat.

Charges for violating the Philippine Fisheries Code will be filed against the fishermen.
