Army’s chief ‘jungle fighter’ assumes post
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — The chief of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) based in Tanay, Rizal has assumed the post.
The 2ID is the Army’s primary infantry unit specializing in jungle warfare.
Maj. Gen. Roberto Capulong replaced acting 2ID chief Brig. Gen. Rommel Tello following a turnover ceremony led by Army commanding general Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. on Thursday.
Before assuming the post, Capulong was acting commander of the 6th ID. He was former chief of staff of the Philippine Army, and commander of the 602nd Infantry Brigade, 19th Infantry Battalion and 52nd IB of the 8th ID.
Capulong is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Bigkis Lahi” Class of 1990. He vowed to sustain and reinforce the gains of his predecessors and introduce new ideas, concepts and programs that would defeat the enemies of the state under the jurisdiction of the 2ID.
“We will continue working together with our counterparts in the security sector and partner stakeholders to finally win the peace for Calabarzon and Mimaropa, and ultimately promote inclusive and sustainable socioeconomic development in Southern Tagalog,” Capulong said.
