Malabon to probe non-payment of university professors’ salaries
MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Malabon will investigate the alleged failure of the local government-run City University of Malabon (CMU) to pay the salaries of its teachers and professors.
Some of CMU’s teachers and professors have not been paid for at least three months, CMU vice president for academic affairs Glenn de Leon said.
“The increasing cost of commodities is extremely tough for our professors and teachers. Our faculty cannot a?ord another delay, so we had to escalate this to city hall,” he added.
Upon learning about the delayed salaries, Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said yesterday she would “demand that a thorough investigation be undertaken to ensure that the situation will be rectified.”
City administrator Alex Rosete has set a 72-hour ultimatum for CMU’s human resources department to explain why the university has not released the salaries of certain teachers and professors, Sandoval said.
She added that the city government’s human resources unit would ensure that CMU “will turn over all unpaid payroll before the close of business hours.”
The city government alleged that CMU has been “deeply marked by (a) political situation that has governed (it) for decades.”
