CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — The number of Dumagat natives who died from diarrhea in General Nakar, Quezon has climbed to six.

Quezon provincial health officer Kristine Villaseñor said the first fatality was reported on Sept. 26 in Barangay Lumutan.

The patient was reportedly declared dead on arrival at the rural health unit of Tanay, Rizal.

Villaseñor said five more deaths and more than 70 cases were recorded on Sept. 29.

Aside from diarrhea, the patients were reportedly suffering from cold and cough.

Villaseñor said there was no diarrea outbreak and the cases were classified as under cluster.

A joint team of the provincial health office, Gen. Nakar rural health unit and Southern Luzon Command brought drinking water and herbs to the village, where a medical mission was conducted to teach the Dumagats to practice proper hygiene.
