Hunter mistaken for deer shot dead

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A hunter accidentally shot and killed his fellow hunter whom he mistook for a deer on Mt. Alibut-tung in Barangay Bokiawan in Kiangan, Ifugao on Monday.

Initial investigation showed Lener Tobiagon, 28, and his villagemate Fredie Yogyog, 43, went deer hunting on Sunday afternoon.

While heading home on Monday morning, the two discovered fresh deer tracks and decided to go separate ways.

Tobiagon reportedly fired a shot when he noticed movement in a bushy area. When he checked, he found out that he had shot Yogyog.

Tobiagon’s relatives surrendered him to the police. The gun he used has yet to be recovered.
