MALOLOS, Philippines — It’s a holiday today in Bulacan in celebration of the 172nd birth anniversary of propagandist and father of Philippine journalism Marcelo H. del Pilar.
The holiday is mandated under Republic Act 7449, which declares Aug. 30 of every year as a special non-working holiday in the province.
The celebration will kick off with a flag-raising ceremony at the shrine of Del Pilar in Barangay San Nicolas, Bulakan town at around 8 a.m.
Rep. Danilo Domingo of the first district of Bulacan will lead the ceremony and serve as guest speaker.
Gov. Daniel Fernando will attend the event along with officials and members of the Bulacan Press Club, Central Luzon Media Association, representatives of the Free Mason of the Philippines and relatives of Del Pilar.
Fernando issued an order enjoining all government offices in the province, private and public schools as well as private establisments to participate in the celebration.
