MANILA, Philippines — A basketball player was shot dead by the manager of a rival team during a game in Tondo, Manila on Thursday.

The Manila Police District reported that team manager Joseph Ariola reportedly approached John Matthew del Pilar, 24, during the game along Ugbo street in Barangay 137.

The two men argued briefly, but when their teammates pulled them apart, Ariola reportedly drew a pistol and shot Del Pilar, prompting the players and members of the audience to run to safety.

The incident was captured by a closed-circuit television camera in the covered court.

Two others were wounded in the incident: Johansel Austria, 18, and Andrea Enciso, who was hit by a stray bullet.

Barangay kagawad Duds Payad said the altercation stemmed from a hard foul.

Police arrested Ariola, who was hiding in one of the houses near the court. He reportedly yielded a pistol with 11 bullets.
