2 siblings drown in Donsol

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — Two siblings drowned while swimming in Barangay Rawis in Donsol, Sorsogon on Friday.

Sidney Mae Catubig, 16, and her brother Steven, 10, were swimming a few meters from the coastline when they were carried away by big waves to the deep portion of the water, Maj. Jasper Agnote, Donsol police chief, said.

He said the two were immediately rescued, but were declared dead on arrival in a hospital.

In Laguna, the body of Jilliane Alyssa Castillo was found floating in a river in Barangay Pinagbayanan in Pila, Laguna yesterday. Her companion remains missing.

Witnesses said the victims were last seen swimming in the river on Friday. – Ed Amoroso
